| File Description | WMF is a proprietary Windows graphic format developed by Microsoft, which is intended to be portable between programs. It's the native vector formats for Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc. However, WMF can also include raster graphics. WMF file format has been replaced by more common formats, such as .JPG and .GIF images. But it's still supported by many image programs, including Microsoft Windows Photo Viewer, XnView, Photoshop, etc. WMF files may also be compressed using gzip, including Compressed Windows Metafile (WMZ) and Compressed Windows Enhanced Metafile (EMZ). |

When you double click WMF files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected WMF file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open WMF files on WindowsRight-click on the WMF file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the WMF file opener. If you decide to always open WMF files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open WMF files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of WMF files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your WMF file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default WMF file opener app.
