| File Description | TIF, short for TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), is a high-quality graphics format developed by Aldus (now Adobe Systems, who holds the copyright). It's widely used by image manipulation, publishing and page layout applications due to its high quality and flexible options. TIFF can handle images and data in a single file by using the header tags. This way, A TIFF file can either contains data without compression, lossless compression like LZW or RLE, or lossy JPEG compression. While lossless compression or none is used, TIFF can be edited or saved without lossing image quality. TIFF may also use the TIFF as file name extension. |

When you double click TIF files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected TIF file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open TIF files on WindowsRight-click on the TIF file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the TIF file opener. If you decide to always open TIF files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open TIF files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of TIF files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your TIF file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default TIF file opener app.
