PAL could be the settings file generated by Painter, a digital image editing program by Corel. A PAL file stores the layout of workspace palettes, including Color, Mixer, Layers, and Navigator palettes. It helps Corel Painter users to customize screen layouts according to personal habbits and different editing purpose.

Users are not recommended to modify PAL files. You can save and load PAL files through Corel Painter.

To save Corel Painter palette: Choose Window -> Arrange Palettes -> Save Layout.

To load Corel Painter palette: Choose Window -> Arrange Palettes and then select a custom palette. The default layout is called "Default."

PAL is also the palette of colors used together with Dr. Halo bitmap images (usually in .CUT filename extension). It defines the maximum red, green, and blue color values, and contains the color palette with RGB values ranging between 0-255. PAL files can effortlessly change an image's colors without modifying the CUT image.
