| File Description | AC-3, a Dolby Digital audio format formerly called Dolby Stereo Digital until 1994, may include up to 6 channels of audio (5.1 surround sound - 5 for channels for normal-range speakers while 1 channel for low-frequency effects.) Different from Dolby's TrueHD, AC3 format is a lossy compression method. But due to the indistinguishable quality, it has now widely used to compress audio of Blu-ray discs, DVD discs, cinema theaters, and game consoles. |

When you double click AC3 files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected AC3 file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open AC3 files on WindowsRight-click on the AC3 file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the AC3 file opener. If you decide to always open AC3 files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open AC3 files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of AC3 files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your AC3 file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default AC3 file opener app.
